Death Putt

What is Death Putt?

Death Putt is a 3–6 player party putting game requiring one practice basket, 2–3 putters per person, and something to use as station markers (spare discs work great). More than 6 players can play, but expect more downtime between turns.

General Rules

Game Setup

Place 10–15 station markers around the basket, ordered from easiest to most difficult. Markers indicate where each player putts from — similar to a lie in disc golf. Every player starts at station 1 and must complete all stations in order. First to finish the last station wins.

Optional: To keep the first game short, place all but the last station within C1X (33 ft).

Game Progression

Sink 2 putts from your current station to advance. Your turn continues until you miss one of those two putts.

Item Stations

Every other station (or player's choice) is an item station — flip the marker disc to indicate it. Upon completing an item station, you may attempt 1 bonus item putt to draw a card from the deck. Missing an item putt does not end your turn.

Before the Game Begins

Set up all stations. Each player draws a random Turn card. Decide on turn order.

Death Putt

A death putt is an optional putt at the end of your turn.

  • Make it — advance to the next station.
  • Miss it — move back to station 1.
  • Your turn ends either way.
  • Make it from an item station — draw a card.
  • You may not death putt from station 1.

Winning

The first player to clear the last station with a putt wins. Cards cannot be used to win.

Practice Putts

Players are not allowed to make practice putts during the game, unless a card says otherwise.

Card Types

Legendary

Stays with you while you hold it, providing passive bonuses usable on any turn. You can only hold 1 legendary card at a time. Drawing a second forces you to discard one of your choice.

Turn

Played at the start of your turn. Only one Turn card may be played per turn.

Instant

Play whenever you like, unless the card specifies otherwise.

Curse

Play immediately upon drawing. Reveal to all players. Your turn ends when you draw a curse card.

Discard Turn, Instant, and Curse cards immediately after use, unless the card says otherwise.

Optional Rules

  • Handicap — If the solo last-place player fails to advance on their turn, they draw a card.
  • Knockback — If you pass another player during your turn, you may attempt one extra putt to knock them back one station. Miss it, and you move back one station instead. Turn over.
  • Make the last station extra difficult and require only one putt to win.
  • Set up stations with interesting obstacles: low ceiling, straddle putts, elevation, etc.
  • Don't like your cards? Swap 2 for 1 random card at the start of your turn.

To speed up play, the game host can stand by the basket and pass putters back to active players.

Other

Feel free to make your own rules. If card rules are unclear, argue amongst yourselves. There are 3 blank cards included so you can make your own.
